The Alliance of Bad British Drivers latest newsletter claims that pedestrians are being put at risk by Strava and speeding cyclists... as an example they quote the Embankment in London

The "winner" in the Men's category at the time of writing is Tom Moses with a time of 3 minutes and 9 seconds which it gives as an average speed of 58.7 kph (i.e. 31.7 miles per hour).
Apart from the fact that there are several traffic lights and pedestrian crossings on that stretch of road, clearly Mr Moses is exceeding the 30 mph speed limit along that road.

Leaving aside the fact that at 31.7 he would be well within the "10% plus 2" there is another small error in this article

..... It wouldn't by any chance be the Tom Moses who achieved this "feat" during the 2013 Tour of Britain, when the roads were closed and the race was authorised

The ABD have never been the brightest

You're not a member of ABD by any chance? No-one else here seems to be familiar with the newsletter.....

I have a friend who is, and gleefully pointed this out to me.

I so enjoy his rants about cyclists.....he has yet to win one

Has anyone also pointed out to the Alliance of Braindead Drivers that speed limits don't apply to cyclists?

They have their own take on speeding

They feel that speeding fines are an "unjust criminalisation" of "otherwise law abiding motorists and don't want any action taken if the driver is within 20% of the limit

So by their own standards Mr Moses should be allowed to travel at 36 MPH with impunity

srw

It's a bit more complicated than that...
Let's lower all speed limits by 20%, then let them have their way.
16.7%.

A great example of why an understanding of maths is useful.

What kind of speeds were achieved when roads around regents lark, London, were closed for some formula 1 action?

But but but the roads were closed for that event.

Theyre a bunch of skid.

They are suggesting charges of 'cycling furiously' under the 1847 Town Police Clauses Act or the 1861 Offences Against The Person Act.

Not heard of this lot. Their website seems rather minimal. On Facebook they seem to have lots of people moaning that they are legally restricted to 20mph past schools and there seems to be "20 is too slow" posters to protest against their "right" cause carnage.
