Cheers jon. CBF1000 for me.

Will absolutely be riding as per the motorbike. Good positive manner and road position (being about 95kg helps...) and expect the worst from all other road users - usually keeps me out of trouble!

best to ride the bicycle in the same manner you ride the motorbike. :tired:

Interesting point..

I ride the loud bike a lot more "casually" than I do Chitty (sorry Twizit, that's my cycle...she's been christened Chitty, because she has a mind of her own)

I tend to ride much more aggressively on her and generally always want to get to the front of traffic at lights etc.

On the loud bike I never want the same.

I think it has to do with the speed of a pushbike, you want to be at the front of the lights, so that everyone can see you and where you can control primary position as you all move away, whereas on a motorcycle, I like to hang back and use the vehicles in front as a kind of "shield"...my logic being that those coming out of side turnings will see the car in front...even if they miss me.

I always get a little uncomfortable being at the front of traffic as we go along the road, everyone is twitching to pull out of junctions in front of me and I spend the whole time thinking that i'm a gonner if just one of them does.

I am planning to get a cycle next week. My friends are discouraging saying it is dangerous to ride a cycle 16 miles a day and that too at this time of weather. I am new to cycling and i am in a dilemma what to do. Can you please advise?

1) Ignore your friends
or
2) Get new friends.

Be sensible, be aware, and assume that every driver is about to knock you off, until you get evidence otherwise. Look for quieter routes or ride with the cycling herd.

Then when you are fit and healthy, and they are having heart problems or can't manage to get around like you can, reflect on how dangerous NOT cycling is.
