Hi everyone,
I was the girl involved in the accident last september om blackfriars bridge. people told me that there had been a lot of support on a few cycling forums, but it has taken me until now to be able to read them. i just want to say thank you to all of those who sent healing wishes my way - i am now getting back to normal life and got back on a bike a few weeks ago (although not on the road yet!). I was extremely lucky to survive and the teams of surgeons who put me back together were incredble.
I am hoping to cycle from Bristol to London next year along the canal path and raise money for the air ambulance team (HEMS). If anyone has an experience in raising large sums of money, I would be really grateful for any advice.
Many thanks.

To save people searching, this is the thread.

From reading the basic account on the other thread, it sounded very bad - glad to hear that you are on the mend (and back on a bike!!).

Hi Jemah,

Your accident sounded totally horrific. Very glad you're on the mend and I'm so impressed you're back on a bike too.

Welcome to cycle chat!

The driver is being prosecuted for driving without due care and attention next month. the police have advised me not to discuss the accident with anyone until he has been to court...

thank you for all your support, i really appreciate it.
i haven't been in london much since the accident, but last time i was there i noticed stickers on the backs of some lorries warning cyclists about passing them. the police also told me about a project they have been doing, where they pull over cyclists and lorry drivers and get them to change places, so they can both see what the other sees. sounds like a good idea.

That does sound like a good idea. Walking a mile in each other's shoes and all that....

I'm always acutely aware that if I can't see a large vehicle's wing mirror the driver can't see me but I bet there are other issues that haven't occurred to me.

Jemah, it's really great that you took the time to post here and have found the courage to get back on a bike after such a serious collision. Best wishes for a full recovery.

Oh, here's a leaflet that the police hand out to HGV drivers and cyclists on awareness days:

Justgiving has lots of info on fund raising.

Glad you are okay.I use Blackfriars Bridge a lot.

Shocking - glad you are OK

As for the fund raising, have a look in http://www.justgiving.com and see if HEMS is there (plenty of other Air Ambulances). It makes the giving and collecting so easy.

Don't forget to come back and post the dates of your journey. I am sure people from here will come out and support you on your way.

Really good news to hear that you are on the mend and getting back on the bike too. You can't rush the building up your confidence bit ... you will just have to do that gradually. Keep us updated with your progress and fundraising:smile:
