Oaf on a Bike
My 9 year old nephew has outgrown his first bike and im being looked at to help advise, so in turn im posting here for inspiration
His current bike is a (possibly 20" wheelsize) bmx style from Halfords which is now way too small. Despite being tall, he cant standover my old 26" mtb yet, so im guessing 24" is the intermediary although not really sure if theres any standard sizing at all.
Hes not really into cycling though, very reluctant to go out and probably only goes out for a 5mile slow ride on (multi use) paths several times during the summer, so a simple mtb type would do. Ive had a bit of a look, but 95% of the kids bikes seem to be full suspension, disc brakes etc for a price that can only ensure the poorest quality.
Price isnt a huge issue, it just needs to be reasonable considering probable low mileage/usage, that he may grow out of it fairly quickly and not interested in re-selling it after to recover some expense. Spending £200 on a bike that he would barely use and might grow out of would be a waste, but buying some supermarket £60 thing could be an even worse idea. I had a brief look at 2nd hand bikes, but most seem your supermarket full sus bike and often clearly lived in the garden.
Id looked at something like this http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/..._-Product_Details_Zone_1-_-Blank&iozone=PDPz1 but the weird frame geometry makes it look like the seatpost is already all the way up.
Thanks
