Hi
I'm looking at getting myself a road type bike but not an out and out racing macine. I've been looking at something like a sportive/ Audax type of bike one that can maintain a reasonable speed and is comfy for touring.
Any advice would be greatfully received.
My budget would be around the £1200 mark.
Thanks

Hi!!
I'm not quite sure what you're looking for here - a sportive bike is a somewhat different beast from a tourer.
Having said that,Byercycles do a sportive bike that will take a rack.
I wouldn't use it for heavy, everything + kitchen sink camping tours, but I'd expect it to cope with a pair of panniers.
Dawes Galaxy is the quintessential touring bike, available here at £900 for a 2010 model.
What sort of tours are you thinking of?

Hi
Thanks for the advice.
I was asking because I have never ridden a race style road bike.
When I've looked at them in the LBS with the saddle raised high up in the air they don't look that comfy to ride.
I must add that I've not tried one hence me asking about a touring/audax type more relaxed style of riding.

Have you considered a cyclocross type bike? ie Specialised Tricross or similar. I have a Tricross and have toured on it for 3 years. It has all of the fittings for front and rear panniers, can take full length mudguards is lighter, faster and sportier than an out and tourer and is quite robust. Also has a triple chainset.

The Tricross comp comes in at your budget and is worth a look at.
