I work as a bus driver, but I need a medical so cannot work at the moment. This will take up to two weeks, so in the meantime will I be able to sign on? Any advice welcome...

You should be able to get statutory sick pay if you're still employed. http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyTa.../DG_10018786?CID=MTB&PLA=url_mon&CRE=sick_pay

No, you should be getting Statutory sick pay through your company- the statutory pay is not very high- you'd need a medical certificate and the first three days of sickness don't count. Your employer may top up the statutory sick pay with monies from the company to give you more sick pay but this isn't mandatory.

If you're self employed it's complicated and you should go to a citizen's advice bureau or at least check out their advice pages.
