Affordable XL city bike sought

I am 6'4" tall and have been riding a cheap over-adjusted standard-size for years.

I now fancy getting a new city / commuter / hybrid / urban bicycle with approx. 23" frame size. I do not want to pay more than £300 if possible.

Please help me finding suitable bikes. I find the choice as a newbie a bit bewildering. Cheers.

It looks nice. What has it going for it? I can only find prizes of £340 and up.

My review can be recommended... it's brilliant.

The basic Sirrus should be around £300, we picked up one for £270 about a year ago and it's been an excellent option for 5 mile commutes in all weathers (with a set of mudguards) and a couple of longer rides. it's very comfortable, reliable, needed minimal maintenance, a good, solid performer.

I went and had a look at the new Sirrus this afternoon. It's a very smart machine and I'm sorry that I hadn't realised that the price had jumped. If you can get hold of a 2012 model, you should be able to find it at around the £300 mark.

There are a couple of Trek machines at the price, which are pretty good, and a Giant Escape is pretty good. Those are, though, all from the bigger mainstream manufacturers so you'll be paying a bit for the name.

Years ago I looked at the speed but like the feel of the velocity instead, no help but it was £300 at the time.

Never cycled them but folk tend to recommend the Carrera Subway from Hellfrauds; great bike but service can vary

Or something Decathalon or 2nd hand.
