Aftermarket cables for Campagnolo PS

Has anyone had any experience using aftermarket cables with a Campagnolo Power Shift system? I quite fancy having the choice of colour but they all seem to be only Shimano/SRAM compatible.

I'm pretty sure that Graeme will come along and tell me to only use genuine Campagnolo but I just wanted to see what's out there.

I hate to disappoint, even so long after the query was posted :-)

You can use 3rd party cables but the shift won't be as good - having said that the quality of the cable makes a big difference - some outers are more compressible than others and there are differences in the amount of friction that outer-inner combinations produce.

We'd recommend that if you really, really, really want to use a coloured cable that isn't white or red (as Campag offer both of these colours in addition to black), that you make sure that you use Campag stainless inners and metal ferrules on whatever gear outer you do use. Bear in mind that if you are fitting to UltraShift levers the OD of the gear outer needs to be 4.5 mm in order to fit correctly into the lever bodies.

Using the Campag inners also gets you around the problem that some 3rd party cables have the wrong nipple size for proper Campagnolo compatibility.
