Back home in (definitely not sunny) Melbourne, and horribly jet-lagged.

I'm also still trying to process some news my stepmum gave me via a phone call 2 days ago, when I was walking through Geneva's Jardins Botanique. My dad has just been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. I'll be calling him tomorrow to talk about it, when I'm not so jet-lagged. He's 75, but from a line of long-lived people, and in very good health up to now, so this is very unwelcome news.
Hope you get over the jet lag soon. Not the best of news to have on your mind on a long journey.

It doesn't have to be the end of the world, talking as someone who lost parts to cancer.

Yeah, that's no age these days.

Cancer treatments are improving, but they are hard on the body. It's going to be tough few months. Hang in there.

Oh, and don't visit him for a few days. If you have picked up a bug in travel, you don't want to pass it on.

Thanks for the replies, @jefmcg and @classic33 . As for visiting him in the next few days, not likely, as he lives near Rockingham, south of Perth in Western Australia, so roughly 3000km separates us. I'm trying to mentally prepare myself to fly over there at a moment's notice, though.
