If you're a man, read this.
I have always suffered discomfort or pain in the 'male area' when cycling and so have most of the other guys I've asked. Short trips are ok but on longer rides I've ended up with nut pain that has lasted days, other times my tackle goes numb! After about an hour I'm often desperate to get off the bike. I think I've found a solution, for some of us at least.
A while back I saw a commercially available saddle that had the front of the saddle removed, which seemed like a very sensible idea. My preferred saddle has thick foam padding. A few weeks ago I peeled back the cover on my saddle and cut off the first 3.5 to 4 inches, most of the nose. Rather than leave it empty I put very thin filter foam in its place so that the saddle retains its shape but there is no body to the front of the saddle.
It's fantastic! Oddly, when sitting on the saddle it feels no different, but there is no discomfort at all. As a real test I went on a five-and-a-half hour off-road ride on Saturday without padded cycling shorts or padded underwear, just normal shorts on. Whole day on the bike and nothing! No discomfort, pain or anything.
This is a big deal as for me as it lets me stay out longer and feel better at the end of a ride. I hope that the information might prove useful for others too :0)
And if you're a woman, you can stop laughing and piss off right now! ;0)
