Alternaties to lycra shorts?

Any suggstions? It seems I may have a bit of an alergic reaction to Lycra, I get some rash/spots around the tops of my thights and waist after a ride. When I don't ride for a while, like a few days this week as I was unwell, the rash virtually disappears. So I have concluded it's probably my lycra shorts causing the problem. I don't care if the alternatives aren't skin tight, vanity passed me by long ago, as long as I have a nice padded bit for my bits

What do you wash them in? Standard advice is to use plain water, as detergents can have this effect

Could it be a sweat rash? perhaps rub a little talc in the problem areas before riding.

Baggy MTB shorts, they come in a wide range of styles, some of them look like normal shorts...

I have a pair of Endura Voyager II shorts which are more MTB style but have a padded crotch to make it more comfortable.
