Microsoft Security Essentials keeps detecting threats.

After loosing patience, I disconnected the pc from the internet and did a full scan. It detcted over 2 million potential threats!

PC was fine until I connected to the www, then MSE starts flashing warnings again. I took the pc offline, did another scan & ran Malawarebytes, pc was fine until I reconected to tye www - now MSE is regularly flashing warnings again.

Any advice?

sounds iffy but hopefully it's just one of these fake alert type bugs that can look alarmingly like official microsoft stuff. My approach would be:-

boot in safe mode and run malwarebytes
reboot again in safe mode with networking and rerun malwarebytes having first connected to get latest version
also connect to the microsoft download site and get any updates for your version of windows, particularly security ones
now boot again in normal mode and see what happens

if the above hasn't resolved things then I'd recommend a trip to bleepingcomputer.com where you can start a thread and be walked through your problem and various fixes. But you do need to know how to get around a computer and download logs for them etc. The general thing with these bugs is that they are written to multiple points, often within the registry, and reinstall themselves following deletion of the one your virus checker finds.
