On another note what happens if you are caught cycling in the road tunnel in or out of Heathrow ? i guess the chances of getting caught are very slim as the commute should only take a minute

You risk your life in that tunnel, not worth the risk.

You will 100% be seen, and if lucky escorted by our dedicated roads team who monitor the tunnel 24/7, if unlucky by the local police. It really isn't worth the risk.
I cycle commute to Heathrow, used to work in the CTA but now Northside. The side bores will be re-opening to cycles in the near future, lots of bits of infrastructure are in place to support this.
In the meantime, best advice to the OP is to use Heathrow Express to get to Terminal 4 (it's free and allows bikes), then as mentioned A30 or A4 cycle path into town. I've not ventured too far that way TBH.

I'll believe that when I see it - I've got emails from Heathrow management going back 6-7 years promising that one or both side tunnels will be available to cyclists real soon now ...

Are you saying that neither of them will be used by taxis in the future ?

Bear in mind that the only public transport you can take a non-folding bike on is the Heathrow Express and the Elizabeth Line (and those only outside of peak hours).

AFAIK you can take a non-folding bike on any TFL line outside of peak hours if the train does not go underground which would mean all of central London

Somebody correct me if i am wrong in what i say

Just a minor correction:

you can take a non-folding bike on any TFL line outside of peak hours if the train does not go DEEP underground

i.e. you can take a bike on the cut and cover Underground lines like the Met, Circle, H&C and District outside of the peak. The rest of the lines it’s only stations above ground where they are allowed.

Very heavy traffic, wouldnt cycle this route

My experiences with the A30 haven't been too bad tbh, but I put some speed into that. The shared path would probably be adequate at touring pace.

A315 to Central London is fairly decent
