Amusing motorway sign.

I drove up to Darlington this afternoon. Part of the A1 is being widened and upgraded to motorway status. There's a speed averaged section by the A167 and the roadworks were flagged up by portable electric notice boards.

The noticeboard just before the Bedale turnoff bore the message:

ROAD WORKS AHEAD
BE CAREFUL
MY MUM WORKS HERE

Probably the only one working too having observed the rate at which things get done

I saw these for the first time in the roadworks on the M1 near Leeds last week.

There was also a sign at the end of the works saying My Mum thanks you for driving carefully with a generic picture of a woman on it.

I think they're a good idea as it makes you remember there is a human factor, (when often you might not see one), rather than just feeling inconvenienced and aggravated by being temporarily being slowed down.

I saw one last week with a pic of a little boy saying "my Dad works here". I think it was on the M62.
