Are you saying there's no 'arm in getting legless, Smutmaster, or is it just a bit of a 'put-on'?

The red ones seem a little pointless.

I can make my legs go a more vivid shade of red by just going for a ride in the cold without silly leg warmers!

Anyway, if you need thermals/warmers etc your just not trying hard enough whatever the temperature/time of year.

I used to have a pair of cycling leg-warmers but the damned things kept rolling down by themselves.

I really don't get them at all, why not just wear longer trousers or longer sleeves?
They are for changeable weather conditions.

For example, the Season of Mists audax event starts from Hebden Bridge at 09:00 this coming Sunday morning. We are in a sheltered valley, and I have experienced very cold conditions at the start, maybe only 3 or 4 degrees. Later on though, if the sun comes out, the riders can be tackling monster climbs in 20 degree temperatures.

If you start off with winter kit on, you boil later.

If you start off with shorts and a short-sleeved jersey, you freeze at the start.

With arm and leg warmers on at the start, you can be nice and warm, and take them off later when the sun is out.

Do I need to get the spray plaster out?

Oh I see! Can you not just cycle faster at the start to warm up more?

And get even greater windchill?

The start of that event is a pig - the riders go straight into a steep climb from a very cold start. Just when you think it couldn't get any worse, it does - the road up through Heptonstall village is cobbled!

Arm and leg warmers are ideal for when the weather is very unpredictable. They were invented for a good reason! I sometimes leave armwarmers on and just roll them down to my wrists for warm climbs and roll them up to my biceps for chilly descents. We have downhills here that are 4 - 6 miles in length and you can get very cold on them.

Do they not do warm up exercises first? I thought you had to warm up before exercise or face the consequence!

Cobbles hold no Eeekiness for me we have lots of cobbles on a very steep hill leading to the Quay, although once when a particularly heavy picnic was loaded in the back of the trailer I was quite convinced I would shoot out of the cobbled one way system down the slip way into the sea!

All this talk of leg warmers has placed an image of leotards and flash dance in my head

I spose for long racey type fast rides they have there place

I recently made the cardinal error of over-dressing for a ride and wore two layers, arm warmers and bib tights. The temps were well higher than expected, and towards the end I had to do the unthinkable and remove the arm warmers, leaving me with bare arms and covered legs. An appalling and prohibited get-up.

I'm going to invest in a pair of leg warmers for next time. That's if anyone from the club will ever ride with me again.

I used my (Lidl) arm warmers on Sunday... I'm fairly new to these, but they were brill. Started off warm, and as I got further up in the hills, it got colder and windy. They were just right for the job.

I sent MrsF to Aldi for leg warmers last Sunday, she came back with arm warmers, because, they were £3.99 and the leg warmers £6+, but "looked the same"................
