Hi everyone, this place looks like a gold mine of information!

I'm in Sheffield and I'm not a cyclist (yet), I run a bit, and I referee roller derby. Whilst browsing the internet about reservoirs, as you do, ( I love running around my local one) I came across a Duathlon event called the Kielder Run Bike Run. I really like the sound of it, it's a 10k/25k/5k so I thought I would get myself a bike and learn to ride, see how the training/learning goes, ( see if I can even ride, lol!) and then maybe do this event!

I'm all excited about it. Haven't even got a bike yet, have narrowed down my choices but my current fave is a Ridgeback Velocity. ( got to be a hybrid for this event).

Look forward to learning lots more over the coming weeks.
Best wishes to all! :-)

Hi & :welcome: to the forum.

I used to skate and gave giving roller derby a try until I was taken out by some snotty kid (on purpose) and smashed my wrist. I'll stick to cycling now.

No question is too daft, by the way. Some of the answers might be though ^_^

Thank you everyone, for the friendly welcome!

Ern1e, you're quite right, I haven't ridden a bike since I was about 14, a Raleigh Honey! I did manage a few metres in my LBS on the bikes I tried though. But I know I have a LOT of work to put in before I'll be anywhere near for the Kielder event.
But I hope that what I lack in experience, I'll make up for with enthusiasm! It was only just over a year ago that I started running, and now I can't stop! :-)

Again, thanks and hello to everyone :-)

Oh dear Saluki, sorry about your roller derby experience! I'm not the best skater, and I'm no spring chicken either, that's why I referee it not play it! Love it though. :-)
