I fail to see why your shorts needed soaking in neat detergent, unless you had a little accident on your last ride.

Anyway, if the pad is genuine chamois, the neat detergent won't have done it any good - it's animal skin - look what the detergent did to yours.

I agree, and I don't know why neat detergent was necessary and the question was asked. She always does it apparently?? The chamois is only a foam type construction so it doesn't do it any harm l guess?

The moral of the story is not to use detergent in the washing machine. It is the agitation in the water that does the cleaning, not the chemicals you put in. Only time you might need it is or grease or oil, but not for ordinary stuff.
