Hang on a minute, sorry linford, that sounds like I'm comparing your bike to my old rubbish that no one wanted!

It wasn't the best of the best, but it was mine

I failed my 1st driving test for similar. failing to make progress i beleive the phrase is . when asked why i didn't go i replied that i wasn't in a rush and diving in a small gap is more dangerous than waiting for a safe gap like the highway code advises.

I failed my motorcycle test first time when I waited for a driver in a car who was reversing back into the junction I was approaching (into my lane). I will admit to feeling less than pleased with the examiner when he told me this (IIRC it something along the lines I hesitated too much -hesitate!? Of course I bloody hesitated... they were reversing in a car, I was unsure they'd even seen me, and I was on a motorcycle!!!).

Anyway, to this day, I'd still wait for the driver in that situation -you just don't know if they see you or not. I put it down to an examiner reaching his quota of passes for that month  Ironically I always considered myself a pretty good motorcyclist (passed second time around) and a poorer car driver (passed first time).
