... just popping into WH Smiths in Exeter and who should be there signing his book?

None other than Henry Winkler (aka The Fonz).

It was a bit surreal seeing this ageing actor, dressed very conservatively, knowing (and remembering) how popular he was in the 70s and 80s.

Makes me feel very old now.

From what I have seen of him he seems a really nice, genuine guy.

Funny to hear that he can't actually ride a motorbike.

He's quite short isn't he? I've no idea in truth.

I was never a Fonzy fan, definitely not 'cool' in my book. I did like Al though..... 'yeeep yep yep yep yep'.

Bugger - you're seven minutes further north than me. When you're at home that is.

Did he sign your copy??

Many moons ago the (Glasgow) Herald ran a story on Henry Winkler when he visited Scotland. He was promoting awareness of dyslexia and the picture accompanying the article showed Henry in a classroom surrounded by kids. The caption said, and I kid you not, ‘TV star Henry Winkler discusses dyslexia with a wrapped audience’.
