seriously considering one myself, should i get genuine or a clone off ebay / dealextreme? The quality of genuine must be a lot better / better batteries or is that not the case?

Nice light

I have had the 808 model from DX China for a few months now. I originally bought it for my expected winter commutes down the dark back lanes, although when I lost my job that plan sort of sunk. But now I find it invaluable for just pottering about town when it's dark, the low beam mode pointing at the tarmac in front with a flasher next to it seems to be fine. Then there's the high beam mode for negotiating dark lanes and unlit cycle paths, which I do ride on occasions. It can be weird to switch it off momentarily and see absolutely nothing in front of you, the difference between that and the little torch/flasher is astounding. I just hope that I don't accidentally burn out a driver's retina! :becool:

And now with my new Topeak Bar Extender I have it mounted out of the way so the STI gear cables don't obscure the light any more.

Just be careful using a magicshine on the raod - they chuck light all over and are pretty blinding - make sure it's pointed right down. Got the 808E for my MTB, but use Hope 1's on the road. You can get replacement lenses off ebay for the 808's that spread the light out sideways.

the 808 sounds like a useful model to have then as i'd be looking at something to combine town light (being seen) with offroad light to actually be able to see across some heathland / forest

They are the same , you are basically paying a premium so you get it quicker and if it breaks it is easier to get a refund /replacement.

DX etc are cheap , take around a month to come and it takes a while to get a refund if somethings wrong .

Other sites can be twice the price, come quickly and can have better return policy .

Take your pick

After a night out over the tops realised I was woefully underlit, just ordered a MJ872 from amazon £94 with p&p 1600 lumens of power on its way:thumbsup:

That torch you link to is almost identical to the 5w Cree torch in Aldi this week.... 10.99 but no bar mount.

Had mine for a few weeks now,it is brilliant, like a car headlight down the Clyne Valley, (unlite cycle path through a large wooded area) would be lost without it!
Mind you, I have to be careful not to blind other road users!

Ive been messing around with making a kind of visor for my mj872 (like you get on some traffic lights) because imho its offensively bright to oncoming traffic/people even tilted down and reduced power isnt much better, so far its just a hood cut out of a coke can with edges all folded neatly and safely, seems to reduce the angle for direct glare from the LEDs without reducing how well the light works at all - just experimenting really.

Also Ive ordered one of the cheapy £30 1200 lumen mj808 clones, it says uk warehouse stock and delivery estimate 1-3days, but i ordered it 4 days ago  Is it likely to take weeks even though its allegedly uk stock?
