My,my we are persistent.I have just taken the third phonecall from a well known mountain glazing company. This follows a letter we got last week. The call began did we get the letter sent last week? Yes but we cannot afford your prices.Well i kept my voice level and low,but very strongly asked him not to ring again. Please do not call again.By they do work hard on you, hoping to break you down.Only last week my mate gave me the name of Yorkshire Windows,he has just had them replace two doors and all the windows of his late mothers flat so he can sell it.Just over £3,000.Big difference from £6,368 for one bay window.

Write, email or phone the M.D of the company and tell him/her that the company is persisting with nuisance calls and you want them to stop, otherwise you will report them to trading standards for harassment.

Register your phone number here, TPS, it can take a while to get into the system, but I never get cold called buy these idiots. I still get called by BT and Sky, (I'm an exisitng customer), but this is despite telling them to remove me from their marketing database on numerous occasions, so I guess a letter to their respective MD's is on the cards.

PS: You can also register for the mail and fax preference services here;

Mail - MPS

Fax - FPS

I don't get junk mail, except hand delivered flyers for takeaway places and taxi companies, and I don't get junk faxes at work since registering with these services

As I've posted before, the reply is "If your company ever tries to contact me again I will start posting very negative reviews of your business on the internet". Works a treat.

TPS doesn't work as technically you gave them details and hence implied consent to contact you.

Personally I stay away from the large companies. I had a similar experience many years ago, on that occasion I had a salesman round to the house. All I wanted was him to measure up and give me a price. The evening ended with me telling him in no uncertain terms to get out of my house!
This was followed by letters and phone calls offering me all sorts of discounts. In the end they got the message.

As I say it was many years ago (i was about 23!) Ended up finding a recommend local company (snug fit) who came out and did exactly what I asked and at a fraction of the price.

Say "OK send somebody around" and go out for the day, about half an hour before the appointment. When they contact you the next day apologise about your car breaking down and arrange another appointment when you know you will be at work. When they phone the next day say you had to work overtime at short notice. The only limit to this game is your imagination.
I know some will say that they are only trying to make a living, but you have to experience these salesmen to understand why they are so despised. I had two of them at our house about ten years ago and after two hours of heavy hinting that I wanted them to go I had to go and bring in King, our large German Shepard who started to do his party piece of-jumping up on them, slobbering and molting all over them. Normally I tell him off but not this time. He must have thought it was his birhtday. :¬))) Both in nice suits, they soon got the message.

Your local business is best. We've got a 7x4 foot Arched window that our local guys did for about £1k (made special to order) - including stained glass to match the original that was replaced. The bay was about £1k and the rest of the windows were £1.5k in total (they were pretty standard)

The deal killer is telling them that you've used 'Rainbow Windows' a much cheaper local alternative and that the prices were so keen that you've had the entire house done.

You've left the door pen to their harassment by letting them know that you have not made any progress with the window replacement.

Next time they call, ask them to hold on while you fetch your diary. Then put the receiver down beside the phone and just carry on with what you were doing.

We had a company replace our windows many years ago in our old house. We had the front ones done and then a few months later when we had the cash the rear.

We then used to get calls every week asking for one of their reps to come round to see us. "But your company has replaced all of our windows already. All of them." This was usually met with a sorry for calling you and we'll take you off the list. Several weeks this went on until I accepted their invitation for a rep to come round.

I wanted to see their face when I walked them round, showed them that were no other windows to replace and made them realise I'd wasted their evening when they could have been selling to someone else! Sadly, he never showed as he phoned to say he was still at another appointment. After I'd told him I was deliberately going to waste his evening anyway we stopped getting the calls!

My dad has the best one for getting rid of mobile phone companies

"we can halve your monthly bill"

"I doubt that"

"what do you use your mobile for at the moment?"

"conference calls to Israel when on business in America"

"How much do you normally pay, we have a tariff that would allow that for £40 per month"

"free"

"free?????"

"I never see the bill"

"I don't think we can match that"

"told you"
