Ant+ Speed/Cadence Sensor Option

Hi

My Garmin GSC10 crank magnet fell off the other day and it got me thinking about potential alternatives to this unit for measuring speed/cadence.

I don't mind using the GPS for speed as I've been doing that for a while as on my previous wheels the magnet used to catch but I'd need speed for my turbo. Ideally want it to be as neat as possible (getting a new bike so don't want it to look horrible now do I :-)

One (expensive) solution seems to be the new magnet-less Garmin sensors as I could attach the cadence to the crank and the speed to my turbo wheel and leaving outdoor rides to be measured by GPS. This seems to be the cleanest solution but £60!!! :-/

Any ideas?

With these are you able to have a bigger gap to the sensor? Find with the stock Garmin one you have to tilt the unit towards it to get it close enough which is what then reduces clearance for the wheel magnet.

Are these easy enough to get out from the axle? Thinking flipping out with a small flat head screwdriver?!

I'd imagine the gap would be the same, <5mm IIRC. However, the garmin unit has an adjustable arm to get closer to wheel magnet so that shouldn't be a problem.

just done this with standard magnet on my Cateye Strada for the cadence pick-up
a tip from gbs
works perfectly.!

Well I've ordered one, at £2.99 it's definitely worth trying and sounds like a good solution :-) Just might need to move the sensor aft with the magnet being a bit further along the crank so hopefully it won't mean new zip ties. No biggy if it does, just need to get some zip ties!! :-)

Just fitted this one, works over a much greater distance than the stock one. Certainly makes setting the sensor up a lot easier and shouldn't drop cadence after any little knock now.

Just a warning though, if you get this one it is VERY strong, don't put it anywhere near any hard drives or let it stick to a metal surface as you'll struggle to get it off lok.

Had been watching the thread to see what you went for. I have a basic boardman computer my lovely mum got me and the magnet and sensor have been a pain. I have the supplied magnet fitted with zip ties and a big with a bit of old inner tube to get it close enough to work with the sensor turned out. Now I can tidy that mess up and focus on getting my cadence up. Cheers
