I have been thinking of taking up kayaking . I'd like to try a sea kayak .
Anyone else canoe or kayak ?

I thought maybe if there were enough interested we could have a CC kayak meet . There is an excellent Kayak centre at Weymouth and probably others along the South coast.

Would anyone be up for some kayaking river or sea . ?

Used to do a fair bit - mostly K1 (did DW solo twice) but quite enjoyed some white water stuff too. Sea kayaked in the Caribbran and arctic Norway (one was as hot as bath water - the other one wasn't )

I sometimes fancy getting back into it but I always worry that if I started again I'd end up spending as much as I do in my bike and I can't afford two bloody expensive hobbies!!

Having said that, I do still have a GRP slalom boat in my Mum's garage

That sounds like my idea of heaven. Hopping round the Carrib with a tent et al in the stow holes and sleeping on remote beaches.

Bliss.

how does your knee problem effect you kayaking ? I have a problem with my back so i don't know if i can still kayak or not. Still if I don't try I'll never know I guess

I broke my knee cap riding coming up to two years ago and I still can not keep any direct presser on the (cap) and to do white water like I was you need 5 points of contact feet, knees, bum and I can only do 4:sad:.

As for you back I do not know but it is hard on it if you think you may have a problem see you Doc before you hand over any cash to buy any thing.

You use your knees to brace yourself inside the boat - otherwise you flop around and have little control of the kayak!

Brilliant sport and the most graceful small craft ever. I wish I could do it; I would kayak around the Scottish Islands camping in remote bays but it's a question of time....

I can kayak but I prefer to canoe. A canoe will be the first thing on my shopping list in September when we move to our new island home in Ontario...

I think I hate you

I am very, very tempted by a sailing canoe to replace the dinghy I have at the moment which I'm finding needs a bit more athleticism than I have now.
