I work not far from home but the way things are i have to use my car, reason being at the end of each day i have to cash up and take the daily takings home with me in a cash box.I really want to use my bike but have the problem of a fairly heavy cash box which needs to be kept flat, its a bit too heavy for my rucksack and will rattle about in my cargo trailer.
Any suggestions really would be appreciated

Tell them to buy another safe.
What happened to out of hours business banking, when you had a key for the slot outside the branch, meant for businesses to bank their takings after the bank closes?

Besides which your employer is making you vulnerable to attack/robbery/burglary by making you carry the cash around with you and storing it at home. Suggest they could find the key or sort one out via a locksmith.
He's aware of the safe situation but is very slow to respond to any requests,we've had a locksmith out who attempted to do a replacement key but to no avail,it did'nt work.
I think the way the boss sees it is i'm in my car and only round the corner from home and have a secure driveway, but it is the fact that i really dont want to use the car that bothers me.I'm going to have to have words with him i think :boxing:

As stated by others I think your setting yourself up to be robbed, the other question you need to ask yourself, is what happens if there is a dispute over the sum of money you have taken home. No actual money needs to go missing, all it takes is for someone to believe 10 quid is missing and you will be a suspect. Your good name will be in question.
It's not your money, why should you assume the risks of loking after it with no apparent gain for yourself.

I fully agree with what your saying. As for the money side of things all monies is accounted for in the cashing up process,if theres any shortfalls in cash from the tills then its picked up on the end of day sheet.I dont go taking thousands of pounds home,i think it would be a different story altogether if i did as most of our sales are paid for via cards, there is some cash though but i am fully trusted by my boss which is why after being there six months i'm now manager,i only started there as a temp.Unfortunatly due to my position i am responsible for the money until it gets banked, although i am told if someone threatens me for the tin then hand it over so i am covered. Its not the security side of things i'm worried about but just purely the fact i want to ride to and from work.

simply turn up without the car - end of your problem and start of the boss mans!

I take it that nowhere in your contract does it state that you must drive to work?

If you don't want to rock the boat immediately, compromise and get the boss to take the money half of the week? But really he should just get a new safe. What does his insurance stipulate about cash etc?

Some good suggestions there. The problem is i dont get to see the boos that much and i need to have the cash box as it contains the following days float,as for getting mugged............i really dont think he'll believe that ^_^
Anyway i have come up with a cunning plan........When i get in to work i'm going to tell him that i have been followed home by a car/van/horse or something and believe i might be at risk. He'll have to get a new safe as the cash is insured whilst on the premises so long as all precautions have been taken for its security, its also insured for travel to the bank, but is not insured at my home address.
