Saw a programme last night with Julia Bradbury  walking the old Speyside railway with the added attraction of several well-known distilleries en route and it struck me that it would make a cracking ride for a famly or a bunch of mates; flat, ambling, scenic and with added whisky interest.

Anybody done this? How far was it? What kind of bike? Road, MTB or CX?

Here for rides.
I've only ridden a small section near Aviemore and Boat of Garten.

tbh it is dead easy to clock up a lot of distilleries by riding a bike in Scotland!

Yes have cycled it on a mountain bike from Aviemore to Grantown on Spey, was easy and very scenic ^_^ didn't try any whisky though!

Haven't cycled it but walked it two years ago, It's a lovely route and would think it would be great on a bike, easy on a bike and lots of whiskey (but maybe not at the same time). If you miss out the Tomintoul spur its about 65 ish Miles (?).

I've both cycled and run along the section to the southwest of Aberlour. That section alone is a bit rough and muddy in places so although it probably could be done on a road bike I'd suggest something with wider tyres would be preferable. Can't remember being on any of the other sections but from a map it looks like a mixture of minor roads, paths and forestry tracks (sure I've seen the section north of Aviemore from the steam train and it looked like gravel path).

Aberlour Gardens Campsite is pretty close to the route and decent if you need an overnight stop.
