Remember the craze (some of us are old enough) where people were drilling excess metal from items to make them lighter.

Big Ted had his kit drilled out by pro mechanics who knew what they were about. More than a few club riders who copied him and spent an afternoon in the garage with a Black & Decker subsequently discovered that there are safe places to drill holes and there are not safe places to drill holes.
