Situation is......I've downsized and illness means I can no longer play golf, go hill walking or cycle.
Therefore I have a fair amount of used but good quality clothes to pass on.
The only charity shops here are in town centre where parking is impossible.
There is a small "place" nearby (5 shops +parking) and it has 2 of those metal clothes banks** so it would be easy for me.
**they are different colours so I assume are for different items (i will check that).
So......just wondering if others ever use them.

Found in the Yorkshire hills ...
Yes, frequently rather than going to a shop. Donations often go to a central warehouse to be sorted and checked anyway; e.g. Oxfam's massive Yorkshire warehouse is near me.

Often they are commerical operations, sometimes donating a tiny amount to charity.
Old stuff yes, but good stuff maybe bus it to a proper charity shop?

We generaly put old clothes in to the fire service charity bins where they are resold to fund the fire fighters charity or recycled into reusable fibers.

I can't remember where but we watched a short cilp on the process and it all seemed very worthwhile.

I do as there is one almost next door to me but also in our local tesco which is a Salvation Army one. Both of them are often very full so clearly used frequently.

Many charity shops will pick stuff up if it's more than a few bags. We've equally found many no longer pick up anymore.
Phone a few up and see what they say.
@PeteXXX we've found our HF shop is very picky about what it takes and what it will collect.

The Salvation Army clothes and shoes containers near me are usually hard to open as some idiots put stuff like children's tricycles in the 'open and tip' thingy! The other year a tricycle had completely blocked the entrance. It was there a month later, so these containers can't be emptied that often.

Some (larger) charities with multiple shops have out-of-town collection centres. One I am familiar with is a unit on "estate" which also has Screwfix, Toolstation, etc. so plenty of parking.

If you (OP) has a significant bulk, somebody I used to kayak with used to work for one such charity (raising some funds through charity shops) and they drove vans collecting stuff so maybe give your chosen charities a call?

Do you have to bag things up?
Are the openings big enough for eg coats ?

Get your family to take them for you to the charity shop. Or ask them to pop the good golf stuff on Vinted.
