Anyone here with a food intolerance or allergy had issue with restaurants?

Indeed - they either don't take it seriously (if you have an allergy/intollerance), or the slightest hint that you may have .... they show you the door.
Some places (we have been to them) with a reasoned and calm approach, show the allergy charts without being asked and are pleasant to eat at. They are few and far between.

Just been to a vegetarian/vegan cafe - I was just passing it on my ride and the place I had wanted to go was closed

So - basically I just walked in and asked

They were wonderful - had several things I could eat (i.e. gluten free and no cheese) and were happy to point them out

even had GF rolls to go with the soup - OK it was Warbutons white rolls but I was just glad to get something!!
nice food as well - even have GF burgers and wraps and the like

It is nice to find such friendly clued up places!

There's a place in Bournemouth Square called " Vegevores " It's a really nice place to eat and very well presented with really clued up and friendly staff. A lot of the items on the sweeets menu are made in house. I ordered a slice of a sort of Portugese cheesecakey type which was pleasent enough but a bit stodgy ( I think it was semolina based ). When I went to pay the bill the waiter asked me what I'd thought of the pudding, and I said it was OK. He looked at me and raised an eyebrow, ever the diplomat I said " I've had better " to which he laughed and said " we won't be making that again "
Just a few doors away is a branch of the Ivy, I looked at the menu and there was quite a range of Veggie / vegan dishes on offer.

When I say I have a cheese allergy some immediately say I can't eat anything containing milk - that isn't the case, cheese is the problem.

A cheese allergy is pretty unusual. From research - and personal experience - lactose intolerance is the more likely condition. That commonly develops in midlife (at least for Westerners - different story in the East!).

Can you drink a pint of cows milk without effects?

I have never had that
I have told a lot of places that I won;t eat anythign with cheese on it but they have never decided that I mean anythign with milk

a few have checked if other forms of milk are OK
but after that they normally just accpet it

to be clear I am not allergic to it
I just hate the tats, smell and even the idea of it (which I might have mentioned before!!!)

milk s fine - although if it goes even a little bit off I tend to over react

I suspect in my case it is partly psychological

It does turn out that I can;t eat anything with gluten in it (Coeliac disease) but that is a new thing
quite pleased so far at how many restaurants have decent concept of how to help with it

If I had a pint of cows milk I'd probably have to run to the loo in a short time- but I can intake some milk. If I have cheese it's a whole lot worse, the World spins (severe vertigo) and I'm violently sick - when paramedics observed this they immediately wired me to an ECG, thinking I'd had a heart attack. The subsequent visit to Hospital revealed nothing, and they said I was as fit as a fiddle.
