Anyone in the Reserve Forces?

Just curious, a mate of mine has applied and it got me wondering!! I'm probably a bit old for it all now but I'm sure it's not all camping and shooting big guns like he thinks it's going to be.

Anyone in, or been in and have any funny or interesting stories to tell?

I so want to join in this, because my father had a very successful career in the Army Reserve, becoming a Brigadier. But that was in Australia, and he started in the 1950s, so probably not useful to you.

But don't join unless you are prepared to serve active duty, which could involve killing or being killed. You know, the whole war thing.

I had a friend who was in the Naval Reserve for a bit of weekend fun, as he liked boats, but ended up in Afghanistan for 6 months. It was only an admin role in Camp Bastion, but still eye opening.
You have to be prepared for the reality of what might happen, because you cant back out when things get too hot.
