Anyone know about gas hobs?

Two of the control knobs on my NEF gas hob suddenly seem to have got locked into the "off position" and won't turn at all.

Is something broken, or could some kind of safety mechanism have been activated?

I'm either bored or sad, but google comes up with a couple of ideas if you search.
Anyway, try turning off the gas supply and opening one of the other taps to release pressure, that might free them, but basically it sounds like the spindle has jammed, which Mr Google says is not uncommon.
