Anyone know anything about CAAD8s?

Hi

I am about to replace my stolen bike, and am looking at something a bit cheaper and a bit more relaxed, geometry-wise, so the CAAD8 seems ideal to me.

I have quite a few bits and bobs lying around to build a decent bike, so I was about to buy the Shimano 2300 version to strip, as it is roughly half the price of the 105 version, the only one that is specced high enough that I could make any sensible money back from stripping for parts.

I notice that the 2300 has a square taper bottom bracket, while the tiagra and up ones have BB30. Presumably the frame is exactly the same, and there is a threaded spacer pressed in for the 2300 version. If that is the case I can use a GXP BB instead of the square taper bb. I have the GXP at home.

Am i right?

Or should I just buy a Canyon Roadlite frame instead?

Thanks for help
J

The caad is the racier geometry although maybe the 8 less than the 10. Synapse the more relaxed again

Yes, the head tube is 2cm longer in my size on the 8 compared to the 10. Everyone seems to laugh at the synapse as if it were a sit up and beg job.

The CAAD8 has a slightly longer head tube than the CAAD10 (I've checked the details in the past and it is the case), not sure of any other differences as I only checked this one dimension. Sadly I can't seem to get to the most up to date geometry chart for the CAAD8 on the Cannondale site atm for some reason, dead link, however to quote Cannondale

With someone's all-important first road bike purchase, it's the details that determine whether it gets ridden regularly or hung in the garage. With its lightest-in-class frame, more forgiving Heads-Up Race geometry, CAAD10-derived tubeshapes and unmistakable Cannondale ride-feel, the CAAD8 is designed to turn people into cyclists.

See for yourself. I've just checked again and the geo is identical in a 54. I would guess the same would be true in the other sizes too.

Just got the geom (from Cannondale's website).

There are also fewer and slightly different sizing options in the CAAD8

15mm higher head tube and 10mm higher stack, so the CAAD8 is taller in each given size - but the effective geometry (TT, ST, seat angle, etc) is identical.

The ride position is slightly more upright, exactly as Cannondale describe as being the case. Anyway, the geometry and the blurb is there, whoever it was wanting to know can have a gander and make of it what they will, I am not going to argue about it

That was not exactly clear from your post . Especially as your last question was as to whether you should get a different frame!?
