As title really. I'm slowly coming to the conclusion that my carbon framed 'Sunday best' bike is going to be replaced by a quality steel frame.

853 is the obvious choice, but what few frames there are in 953 seem to be getting pretty good write-ups.

Anyone like to share their experiences?

out of curiosity why are you going for steel?

Do a search on bikeradar for drlodge, he has recently had a rourke built I think in 953. The other s/s to consider is the columbus xcr, which engima bikes use.

I've ridden aluminium, titanium, steel and carbon over the years (carbon only for the last few months). While I appreciate that not all frames made of the same frame material are the same, of all the bikes I've ridden I prefer the ride that steel gives.

I've never owned a really top quality steel frame, but I think it's about time I did^_^

Why do you prefer steel over Ti?

I find it very difficult to answer that without resorting to the clichés about 'feel' and 'soul' and all that waffle, but a good steel frame definitely has something that other materials don't. I just enjoy riding steel framed bikes more than other frames^_^

And they look prettier. Tell me this isn't gorgeous:wub:

I'm genuinely curious, because I see Ti as being as comfortable as steel, but lighter. So, given a healthy/unlimited budget, Ti seems the obvious choice.

Not here offten enough to argue
my titanium sabbath is both light and very comfortable and a snip at just under 2k with full 105 groupset and handbuilt wheels.......bargain.
