Hello All,
Does anyone use an electric meat mincer ? Do you think it would be capable of mining Chicken carcases ? I have a good supply which I would like to use as pet food for my 6 dogs (4 times working Cockers a Jack Russel and German Shepperd.) I used a similar diet before for many years with excellent results compared to commercial feeds with Large dogs but would like to mince it for the smaller dogs as I don't fancy the £1500 vet bill a friend recently had when one of his dogs ate a turkey neck whole.

Thanks all

A dog forum might be a better place for your query.

Sorry I can't help; but I'm sure there will be one or two of the regular posters on here who will be along shortly to tell you all you need to know about mincing.
I do know that I wouldn't be feeding chicken bones to a dog, minced or not!

I wish to mince them as a friend of mine has a Cocker that ended up with a blocked intestine due to part of the Chickens back bone getting stuck ( almost barbed) nearly lost the dog and it cost him £1500. The vet showed him the offending bit of bone which recognized instantly From previous experience with my German Shepherds I know dogs do so much better on a raw diet better coat ,much calmer, more stamina, less waste, after all dogs of any type don't cook there own food. As I have 6 dogs there is a lot of competition and they tend to wolf the food down chewing to a minimum amount in order to get it before another dog gets it.

If it is cooked chicken bones should be no problems. To much will give the dog constipation. I assume you are mixing with meat. Most commercial BARF diets contain minced bone. You also find that giving dogs beef knuckle (or similar)bones that have been boiled (to get the stock/marrow out) give them, should give them constipation. It havent noticed it. The bones basically turn to mince when the dog chews on them. Makes a right mess in there bed. So if you smashed them up first they may go through a standard mincer.
Try to ignore people who think that eating minced bone is bad for the dog. A rather silly view after all dog/wolves have always eaten bones.
Have you looked at natures menu? Various percentages of minced meat/bone to vegatables. Also do 100% meat mince including green tripe highly nutritious. £10 of first purchase.
Most dry dog food is cooked at 150c forced through a tube, cut into pieces and then air dryer at 200c not the diet of there ancestors. Not even 100 years ago.
Vitamins and omegas are destroyed and have to be added back. Synthetic vitamins. Grains are added some dogs may not find them digestible. I cannot remember the effect on protein but again may not be suitable for all dogs.
Ox liver dirt cheap. Don't over do it.

PM you in a minute.

Raw chicken bones are OK, just not cooked ones. If the carcases are raw, why bother to mince them?
You mince them so the bones don't get stuck in there throat. Cooked or not if there minced they cannot get stuck in there throat...obviously.
