To the cyclist that was waiting to get past me approaching Forth road Bridge this am at 8.30 whilst I was listening to a radio programme that was significant for work. I did shout an apology but you showed such a fine turn of speed you may not have heard me.

If it's any compensation the p*ncture fairy visited me and I discovered that the pump I had with me is sh*te.

Now at work having got in late with a semi-pumped tyre.

Best get a CO2 inflater to backup your pump, most mini pumps not good at getting up to a decent pressure...

Pump choice is critical to getting decent tyre pressures I find. Get a good one & they're not to much of a problem getting up to a get-you-home 90-100psi.

Looking to get a replacement pump today or tomorrow.

Changed tyres today for Schwalbe Marathon Plus.

Managed to burst two tubes around the valve as the bead wouldn't seat properly. I think the tubes were too big around the valve. The punctured tubes I repaired seated fine and are now on the Dawes galaxy ready for action.

The p*ncture was on the inside of the tyre so I have also fitted some fabric rim-tape too.

Any recommendations for a pump to travel with. Ideally i think a mini-track pump would be the bunny but anything but the blue piece of excrement that I used yesterday :-)

I have spoken to other cyclists about the CO2 inflater but have only got negative comments back like they are expensive and don't inflate the tyre well enough but I wouldn't know off hand as I have never used them, although I have had to walk a few miles when my pump buggered up.

I use a pocket rocket. Small and lightweight but as with all portable hand pumps it will never get you around 100psi - these things are just designed to get you going again so you can get home and use a proper pump. I think the max psi I got was 60 on the old racelites when I tested it out, and that was pumping for an eternity.

I find you need the 30~35cm pumps if you want to get up to around 90-100psi. The short mid to low 20cm ones are just to short.

I've used them quite a lot, they work very well for me with high pressure road tyres. Expensive if you buy replacements from the bike shops, but I got a super cheap 50 pack of cannisters.

I've tried a few pump types, the latest is a frame pump and it's excellent

looks good too

I have a Mini DXG, I'm always worried that I'll damage the valve as it's not easy to keep the head still whe you pump.

Arrrgghhh ...

As I said in previous post fitted Schwalbe Marathon Plus on Saturday.

The shiny loveliness of the tyres with the blingy sidewalls looked great as I jumped on the bike this morning.

As I skipped past the cued traffic approaching the Forth Road Brige all was well with the world .... then BANG !!!

Back wheel blew ... both sides of the tyre off the rim ... just glad i was going uphill not down at the time.

Thanks to the guy who stopped and asked if I had a spare tube but I was so p*ssed off I got the Mrs to come and bring the car to get the bike back.

After leaving a 7.40 I will now be late for work !!
