I've told people off at the cinema for using mobiles, always fun!

Did you ever go to Not The Moulin Rouge in Headington or the PPP downtown in Oxford, Fabbers? NTMR used to let you take beers in and if it was really cold they'd put the 3-bar fire on. A fine cinema experience, good films on too! Think they were owned by the guy with the shark in his roof at one time. Halcyon days...
Used to go to the PPP when I was at school. It certainly taught me all I wanted to know about foreign cinema. One thing sticks in my mind though, the toilet signs. Pearl over the Ladies and Dean over the mens

Football is played by en large by the masses that does include people with less than desirable manners. I love football, but not this chavvy foul mouthed side of it. Wish it were more like rugby and it's supporters. It's not by accident that my nephew plays rugby in a private school!

You'll need to qualify that. Two of us have taken our lads along to a League team now the seasons don't coincide at junior level. We have quietly noted that some of the parents don't quite have the same touchline finesse that some of the Union parents have. One mum from Dewsbury (at least I think it was a mum, the swearing was a bit high pitched for a bloke) managed to fulfill every Dewsbury East stereotype going.

I used to live just round the corner from the PPP. Friends of mine took it over and squatted it after it was closed...

Well when you see the behaviour of some at the pitchside, it's no surprise. His team got the fairplay award this year. Probably the only ones who didn't have a parent booked!

Spot on! I took a refereering course many years ago and did one game where I got nothing but abuse from the parents. The players were fine. I didn't bother again, when I was giving up my Sunday morning, for free and getting abused for it.

Just had my Big sister being her usual charming self and launching into an unwarrnted tirade against me, calling me a liar and making things up about something she knew nothing about as though she was a world expert. On being proved wrong, oddly enough, as per usual, she suddenly acted as though she was some sort of victim.
She's probably now texting people about what an idiot I am because she's always right and there is absolutely NOTHING you can say, I really do hate her, genuinely, and she she's been exactly the same ever since I can remember.

BITCH!

Another event which served to further fuel my disdain of the 'football' world ....
Appalling.

So I am not the only man in Britain who actively dis-likes Football!

I've always disliked it. I was okay at it at school but was never encouraged to push my skills (PE was more a punishment than an activity).

but as a young adult so much about the "great game" just left me cold;
  • Violence
  • Aggression
  • Poor manners
  • Fat blokes in football shirts
  • Racism
  • abuse
  • anger
  • National shame (at our fans)
  • Lack of any form of good conduct (other sports generate aggression but seem to finish with a sense of unity)
  • Cheating
  • Diving
  • Acting
  • No respect towards the referee

My lack of interest and understanding has held me back in my career, references to leagues and divisions always meant diddly squat to me.

As for cinema...what's not to love and the smell of popcorn is just sublime. I've only ever had one roll around in the car park at Bluewater after a chap sitting next to me held a 10 minute chat with his mate through a film (in the gallery seats...the pricey ones) and then flipped open his phone to make another, we had a heated chat and he followed me into the car park but it ended well.

Other than that...I love the flicks. (always wanted to be in production)

Agree. I recently complained to cineworld about the use of mobile phones as it really spoilt our enjoyment of a film. We walked about about half way through. They sent a lovely letter (and 2 vouchers) basically saying they didn't have the staffing power to police it. Surely there must be something they can do as I'm sure there are many people who are put off or indeed, don't bother going anymore.

I suspect what that means is that they cannot justify the cost of specialist staff who can handle the aggro that may result from "asking" a group of teenagers to behave. I know the average cinema employee (probably around 19-25) wouldnt have signed up for that.

Perhaps someone should start a cinema doorman's association...big chaps with bright torches need apply.

i work with a bloke who is just the same as your sis. I would call him a daffodil but he has neither the warmth or depth required to qualify. his problem is that it is smoke and mirrors to disguise his own shortcomings.

Yes, that's my sister exactly, she can be absolutely charming when she needs to be, but when she doesn't, she isn't.

By the way, I came across this cracker (although the original poster's response didn't help):
