Somebody opened an itunes account in my name with my CC details and bought something. Strange, as it must be over a year since I've used that card.

Wow, what company! Can I get them to close the account, delete my CC details and get them to confirm to me that they have done so? Nope. :cursing:

4 phone conversations, after it took me the best part of an hour to find a telephone number, and many, many emails later they are still trying to get me to manually close an account, one that was fraudulently opened and then used. I've never had an account! I've never owned an Apple product! I don't have a friggin password to close the account because I never opened one in the first place. :cursing:

Now another part of their organisation (of course they now have my details) is spamming me with Apple product offers.

Grrr on your behalf. How annoying.
I once had an account with a company and they somehow got my date of birth wrong so when I was confirming my details they kept telling me it was wrong and did I know what it might be? Erm no, because I'm pretty sure about when I was born.
I hope you get it sorted - have the credit card company been more helpful in giving you your money back?

Yes, the CC company refunded but I just can't get Apple to cancel the fraudulent account and my CC details, now they want me to "schedule a call" (Pacific time) in 5 days to talk to an "advisor", they have tangled me up in web and there is no way out.........................

Once you use a credit/debit card to buy something over the phone or on the internet then your card details are stored somewhere in cyberspace, never to be deleted. It is probably only a matter of time before someone hacks into these supposedly secure sites and steals them.
If I can't pay by cash or cheque then I don't buy.

That must be a bit limiting, surely? I think you are worrying unnecessarily.

The whelks at O2 blocked/locked my phone because they sent the bills to the wrong address that the occupier of changed my account. After all that was sorted they said they would text me the unlock code. the phone was completely locked so how I could get to the text I don't know, the chap in the O2 shop didn't know either, even after he talked to them.

Never had a phone with O2 since.

I've two accounts opened at the same bank, different branches, with a £250,000 in cash, for each account.
Had to turn over a customized 4X4 to the HMRC. Bought on ebay & paid for in cash, including the shipping to the UK.
Had to give a driving demonstration after "I'd defaulted on the second payment" to prove I couldn't drive. "I'd driven out" of the dealership leaving my other car as part exchange.
ID fraud is on the way up & most companies won't do a thing about it until it effects them.

What I found odd was that the CC company did not ask any questions, it immediately refunded me, one phone call lasting less than 5 minutes (2 mins used to establish my identity) to complain and be refunded.

Presumably the CC company have cancelled the card and issued a replacement. Tell them you have no dealings with apple and to block any such transactions in future, unless you call them to change this instruction and let Apple go whistle. I had a similar issue when someone, using a name that is not anyway like mine and my Debit Card details to take out a Wonga loan. First I know is when I have close to £850 worth of debits on my current account. The Bank refunded the money and issued another card, I reported this to Wonga and the Police and no more has been heard.

At least this was in your name! My fraudster ised a completely different name and the bank paid out. Grrr!
