Are Wiggle Losing Focus?

Apologies if this has been covered, but nowt jumped out at me when I searched it.

Just noticed Focus bikes are now available at WHEELBASE

They are advertising 2012 bikes whereas Wiggle are still only showing 2011 bikes HERE

It definitely looks as though Wiggle's monopoly is coming to an end with the Focus brand.

FWIW, I can fully recommend Wheelbase to anyone, their customer service when I bought my bike was fantastic

Wow, looks like prices have taken a massive hike for 2012 as well. The carbon 105 setup is now £1399, I bought my 2009 model for £874.The colour scheme is pretty good though.

I think that's par for the course year on year isn't it? Simply blame the cost of raw materials

You'd think, but i'm no expert, but with carbon fibre seemingly more common you'd expect a downward pressure on raw material.Then again I have heard that Focus deliberately sold bikes cheap for the first couple of years to build a reputation, so maybe now they are pricing more realistically and getting more margin.

I had been waiting for Wiggle to launch the 2012 bikes the one I was waiting for was the Mares 'cross bikes.

Quick look on Wheelbase and the Detailed information page is this, hardley detailed for a £1099 bike, nor does it look like great value compared to the 2011 models Do they do the 30 day trial? I think that was part of the key to the success of Focus via Wiggle, that and normally get one up gruppo's compared to say Giant and Specialized etc.

Yes, I read somewhere, sorry, can't remember where (A magazine article I think), that Focus were pulling out of exclusivity with Wiggle and going mainstream dealerships.

Just don't let them do your servicing! mine went in for its first safety check all was working fine when it went in as I'd only done about 150 miles on it. It came back with the gears not shifting properly, had to take it to my LBS to have them set up again. I should have taken it back to wheelbase but they are the other side of the country to me...

Just got to edit this I must also say that I've bought all my bikes from these guys and have watched their business grow over the years their customer service is brilliant just the maintenance leaves a lot to be desired.

Have to agree - the service people seem a bit, well, amateur. I go into Wheelbase quite a lot even if it's just for a chat when I'm out on the Windcheetah as it's in the same location as my usual mid-ride coffee stop I've had really good advice and service over the years on the sales side but the guys in the back always seem to be just standing round yarning

I can't comment on that TBH. They're only an hour up the road from me, but it'd cost me about £20 in juice, plus the inconvenience. I do all my own routine servicing anyway, and I have a fantastic LBS for stuff I can't/won't do myself

I paid about £970.00 for my Mares AX 1.0 earlier this year, THIS ONE. The 2012 bike is £1269.00, virtually the same spec and it now looks $hite IMO


The rest of the AX/CX range look even worse. They seem to have done a Kona and launched a range of very strange colourways, shame as the CX's used to be a great looking bike.
