Hi All, My daughter has been caught up in the fashion for vinyl records. I promised her that, next time I was up in the loft I would rescue an old turntable from a box up there and see if we could plug it into her little Sony mini hifi system.

Even a fule like me see it isn't going to work.

The Audio in port looks like a 3.5mm standard jack to me. The cable coming out of the Sherwood turntable looks like:

Is there some sort of adapted I could use? There are plenty of 3.5mm jack splitters but would any of them work? I know the sound quality will be compromised but it is to say I have tried!

Lots of these on the Bay of evil...

Thanks!

What's on the back of the mini hi-fi system. Any inputs?

Will he need one if it has an audio in? It might have a pre-amp on the input. Worth trying first and if it comes out with a feeble tinny sound then he needs a pre-amp.

It won't have a built in phono stage, if it does I'll eat your dog's hat.*

*not.

Years ago we built a reasonable separates system. It has (has) Arcam amp, Denon tuner, Marantz CD, a tape deck that I forget, the Sherwood turntable and Mordant Short speakers.

One of the speakers developed a tinny sort of vibration and the CD player doesn't play any more. I will be able to test the turntable though!

Thanks everyone. We're off to the smoke tomorrow so I'll be able to pop into Ritchers.
