I thought it was because I was exploring more esoteric routes but I did 43 miles this afternoon all on road and my average was a very naff 12.5 mph, I did hit 38.1 mph on one descent which was fun but I am really off with my average which was running at closer to 17 mph. I am doing hillier routes at the moment and am certainly fitter for it but the speed difference is still a lot to account for, I am wondering if it is the heat, are other people finding that they are slower in the heat?

from 17mph to 12.5 is a heck of a slump. Are these the same roads?

No, I am doing hillier routes now and thinking about it my average run is about 40 miles whereas it was closer to 20 before so I expect that is it, I'm pushing myself further and my fitness needs to catch up is all.

Were you properly hydrated? I need gulp down litres in hot weather.

I am going through about three litres on a run. It is the distance, I am sure.

Either that, or your coming down with something! Seriously though, more miles, a hillier route, and high temps are slowing you down.
