Convertxtodvd......................excellent piece of software.

You can't burn DVD on to CD's you will need blank DVD's. These will have a 4.5Gb capacity, the software will convert to the size you set. I would recommend 4gb.

If you need any more help.............just ask.

ConvertXDVD +1

I use SUPER for everything else, conversions to phone etc. but ConvertXDVD is superb for conversions to DVD as TPIS says.

:cough: forgot it wasn't free, the demo (free) version leaves a watermark over the movie...in that case SUPER all the way.

Yes, I downloaded the free version of ConvertXtoDVD, but on the free version there is a watermark on the converted file.

Need to buy it to avoid the watermark. How much is it?

I had the same problem re avi to dvd files but Mrs BG just used IMGburn freeware to transfer the avi file to blank disks and they worked on both DVD players in the house. God knows how cos they shouldn't have ??

Thanks 2Loose. I didnt know that they did but am pleased that they do. I had tried IMG burn twice before, got picture but no sound on the DVD players but they worked fine on the laptop.... hence my amazement when Mrs BG did the same thing and this time they worked on the DVD players... she's still gloating

The thing is, an AVI file can contain a bunch of different audio and video formats. AVI is what's known as a container. Unfortunately there's no such thing as a standard AVI file, and it could be a matter of luck that some AVI files would contain audio and video that a DVD player can handle while others may contain only one or the other, or neither. Quite a few DVD players these days support DivX and Xvid video codecs. There's a great Windows utility that I use called Mediainfo (Google it) which will tell you loads of stuff about what is in particular video and audio files.

As Cardiac says, AVI files are a container for a video stream (xvid\divx\mpeg2 etc) and also an audio stream (mp3\aac\wav etc) and can be a combination of any of these.

My DVD player supports xvid\divx for video and mp3 (among others) for audio. So, if I have an avi file in which the movie is made up of xvid video with AAC audio, I get a picture but no sound - as you have already experienced.
Xvid and mp3 sound plays fine.

I use a program called Gspot to check out which components a movie is made from (but i'll take a look at mediainfo, cheers Cardiac).

Soooo...if you are looking for software to convert movies to play on your dvd player, ensure that you choose mp3 for the audio part and all will be well.
