It's easy to go wrong in Leeds when you are 35+..............like me

Distrikt is a great bar/club, good atmosphere, decently priced food and usually live music. I'd happily take friends/clients of all ages there.

Arch is right, more Tapas bars this side of Madrid.

(For the reply, not for what he did.)

You can't blame us for him, Maz, he's a bleedin' Londoner who learned his bad manners in Canning Town and plays his football in Brum.

Won't blame Leeds for the player but IIRC he was out with his Leeds mates in a group of around 12 or 14 when they jumped two asian blokes. I was going to say every football team has a minority of "supporters" who ruin it for the others, in this admittedly unique case for Leeds it was the players.

Sort of. He was out with a group of them, but only he and a couple of others were involved in the fight. They didn't quite 'jump' their victims, there was a bit of handbags in a Leeds nightclub and Bowyer and Woodgate grossly overreacted.

I do have some general sympathy for footballers, who find it difficult to go to places like that without local yobbos trying to pick a fight with them. But none at all in this case, especially not with Bowyer, who came across as an obnoxious little toerag.

Let's hope he has grown out of it. It can happen - Chris Hughton seems to have worked a miracle with Joey Barton, when lots of people in and out of football said he would never be rid of his violent past.

You can take the man out of prison but you can't take the thug out of the man.... got another one now in Andy Carroll. Good job you don't need a brain to kick a ball.

From Urban Dictionary: The definition of a 'Yorkshireman'

Yorkshire (english county) provides many a salutory tale in how not to behave when away from home. Men of that large county tend to be extremely boastful on account of their lack of size in other areas. Borish, arrogant, self-opinionated, unforgiving. Have a pathological dislike of lancastrians on account of having had their arses thrashed several hundred years ago by said county. Treated sympathetically when in Lancashire to seek cultural enlightenment. Cannot pronounce the word 'cricket'. Women of that county provide regular, if 'sameish' entertainment to Lancastrian men living close to the border.

a. I'm a yorkshire man!

b. Then you should leave!

Disagree. Violence is largely a result of how you spend your time and who you spend it with, particularly for young men.

.. got another one now in Andy Carroll.
It does sound like it. But you will find a sprinkling of thugs in any group of men his age, no worse amongst footballers. Most of them just grow out of it and I expect he will too, especially since his employers have £squillions invested in making sure he does.

I think I'll agree with 100 &% of that. Footballers are an easy target, especially for large groups.

You can find plenty of these, and some people actually state they have to be tight fisted since they're Yorkshiremen, the only good thing to come out of Lancashire is the road to Yorkshire etc. Just a vocal minority.

Now it's my turn to start on Leicester folk ;-)

Still does mushy peas though?

Not that I noticed from the menu.

It's a bit annoying - it's not like I got chips all that often, but it was nice to be able to drop in on the way home, and they were reasonably priced. But it's a funny location, on the edge of the middle of town, and I think there wasn't enough passing trade. If they couldn't make a go of it at a time when one of the other city centre chippies was shut after a fire, then when could they?

Can't see me wanting a £12 platter of olives and stuff for dinner, even if they did takeaway. I wonder how long it'll last - although the Italian deli and restaurant next door does ok, so maybe people'll make an effort to go. Their 'sandwich and chips' for £4.95 looked ok value I suppose.
