As I go to college I had the past week off. Fortunately I am back to commuting tomorrow but only for two days a week. I was looking forward to commuting in September but in this weather and cold, it isnt fun. It is more of a chore.
It does save £6.50 on the bus though.

A lot of us hardened commuters never find it a chore. If we ever need reminding at how good a cycle commute is in all weathers. We take a train, bus or the car.

Cold, you need better clothing. Really doesn't bother me, and I quite like the cold. I really enjoyed the minus fifteen temperatures in early 2010 with snow. Now that's a challenge.

Well I can keep the core of my body warm enough but recently my toes and fingers have been getting very cold. I wear thick walking socks and winter cycling gloves, and yet I still manage to get cold.

As foss says, windproof is key.

Tink about the thing that makes the difference temperature wise between walking & cycling:- wind chill.

Some people really struggle with extremities regardless of clothing though.

I've cycle most of this past week in temps less than 7 degrees. Lovely, well apart from this evening when it went to below 3 and I had the wrong shoes on!

Def agree with the above- the right clothing and you'll be away, or alternatively pedal harder!?

Some windproof gloves and socks and you'll be fine, besides if you're a student you'll only have a couple of weeks before you break up for Xmas don't you?

I've used windproof gloves and overshoes this week after my toes nearly froze off on an early morning ride last Saturday. I can confirm that they really do make all the difference.

I've got a pair of Sealskinz winter gloves. Last winter my hands were kept toasty in all temps. The only annoying thing is that they're quite big, so you have to remove them to get food out of your jersey and whatnot, which is a pain on longer rides.
