I had my back waxed yesterday for the first time in my life. It was very painful at the time but soon eased off and just became tingly. I wanted to do it as part of my "try new things and live life" strategy. Glad I had it done.

I wouldn't recommend to anyone who has a low pain threshold though. I'm usually pretty good with pain but this made me anxious and very sweaty. I was sweating out of pores I didn't know I had.

Anyone else had anything waxed?

If you have regular wax treatment, it becomes far less painful. The hairs become weaker over time.

That's what the beauty therapist said. But I'm not sure I'll get it done again...maybe my partner will do it at home but I did not enjoy the experience much! perhaps a one-off if I'm going on holiday in the summer

I was going to say, "The car."

That would be taking away from what you had done though. A friend had his legs done back in the day. He was quite hairy and the person doing the waxing lacked the strength to pull the strips off clean! Ouch.
Legs would hurt more I think. But the woman who did me was very good, she had a very good technique and whipped it all off really quickly

Tried home waxing once - about as effective as ripping off sellotape. Always use a professional.

A male colleague of mine (quite hairy) had one leg waxed - in public - to raise money for charity. He tells me that even 5 years later the coverage on his legs is not symmetrical any more.

I had my back waxed about 15 years ago. I’ve had a hairy back since I was about 4! I was told it would grow back thinner. This was of course utter crap!

The pain of the process was as expected, but what was worse was bed sheets and shirts feeling like wet rubber against my skin until enough hair grew back.

I had it waxed due to self consciousness, I don’t care these days.

Good lordy, of all the things you could think of as part of a 'try new things and live life strategy' you came up with this??!

I can only assume you have lived an incredibly full and rich life that's involved trying nearly everything else on earth, for this to have even made the short list.

What have you got planned for next week, an invigorating kick in the plums?
