I need a backup light for commuting in case my main light fails and possibly one for the back of my lid. There are a few variants that I have seen but have no idea if they will be suitable. My main rear light is a Smart 1w.

Wondering if any of you use the ones listed below and what you think of them or if anyone can recommend alternatives.

It needs to be bright, small and easily removable. I can't afford another bracket on the seat post as I sometimes need to drop the saddle when off road hence why all my choices are silicone strap types.

Thanks in advance

I use a Fibre Flare accross the back of my helmet and would happily recommend on grounds of brightness, visibility, ease of use and value. Batteries seem to last ages in it too.

Why not mount it to the seat stay ?
I run the commuter with one on the seat post and one on each pannier bag to give me a nice triangle of rear lights .

Good idea and not thought of that. Not sure if I could get one to fit. The seat stays on mine are square and because its a full suss they are more horizontal than a regular frame.

Will have a look into that!

Hi!
I had a Cat Eye Nima, the second of your links.
Great light out put for the size, bought it because like you I wanted two rear lights, I'm too small to show the seat post length required so I thought of fitting the light to the seat stay.
Lost the Nima after the second outing, the rubber fastening is flimsy.

Out of those I'd choose the Lezyne Zecto Drive, .

Decided to try the Zecto and a Knog Blinder. Both USB chargable and a decent price

Got two of the bleeps on my MTB and for the money they have been better than the RSP Astrum that it copies. Both Astrums snapped the brackets on the lamp making them useless.

The other option is the USB R2 - that gets rid of case snaps, and I've seen them for about £12

Just ordered two of those to be my main lights for winter, like the idea of them being usb rechargeable and I know from my previous R2 just how good they are

Both my R2's are showing tiny cracks on the retaining tabs, so the USB might be my next set for next year.
