Nearly knocked off my bike early the other morning by a badger. Never see them normally, but in a quiet (up hill) lane it suddenly appeared, and raced along side of me, determined to get across. Then it swerved sharply in front of my bike and shot into the bushes. I had to brake pretty sharpish to avoid damage to me and the badger. They should really learn a thing or two from foxes and hares. When these creatures spot you they are gone in a flash .... but not the badger! Blind as a bat it was ... or blind as a badger!

Great stuff - well done for staing on/not hitting the badger.

Badgers whilst shy of humans, I think are the toughest customers commonly found in our country. They ain't scared of nowt and will believe themselves well hard enough to take on a bike wheel !

They are a bit myopic and rely more on scent. Perhaps your one likes GT85 ?

Yes, I had one cross the narrow lane in front of me, which was maybe 20yds ahead, no problem normally until it changed its mind after getting halfway and turned around, by then I was on top of it, missed by a hair.

Last week on an early morning commute through forest lanes, spotted a deer and fawn ahead, about 50yds, they split when they saw me and went in opposite directions, as I got along side the fawn it panicked and tried to get back to its mum and crashed into my leg, luckily I had braced for it and got away with a wobble only, really thought I was going down though.

I saw a badger hit the side of on oncoming car on my route once. I was waving frantically to tell the driver to slow down and when he did the badger hit his car and stumbled off back towards where he had come from. They are a lot bigger than you think too. I thought it was going to get squashed right alongside me. I had to pass an already dead one on my commute for a few days last year and he was huge, really had to avoid him. They're in line for a big cull now aren't they?
