At 6:10'this evening my black labrador Bali went to sleep for the final time.

You were the most wonderful loyal, protective, obediant dog with gentlest of natures and offered so much love over the last 11 years. I cried as I held you while you went to sleep and will cry myself to sleep tonight, life will never be the same without you and you are absolutely irreplaceable.

Rest in peace baby boy, I will always miss you.

I know this has nothing to do with cycling but needed to write it somewhere to make it feel like I've said it, or more importantly that he heard it.

I'm sure you gave him a great 11 years.
Best wishes.

I can't offer a like for this, just empathy. I'm sure it was a special bond from which you both gained throughout his life. Dogs can make us more complete as humans but the knife through the heart at the end is the price we pay. RIP.

So sorry Paul, pets are family members and a loss can be heart breaking, thinking of you

Animals are complete bastards, they become part of our families and we love them and structure our lives around them. And then what do they do? They die. But the love they give us and the joy that they bring...

I can empathise with you and the above posts completely, in the past I have had to send two of my beloved dogs over the rainbow bridge, it is never easy and my dogs will live on in my heart and my memory. Take consolation in the fact you did the best thing for bali, he will now be at peace no more pain or suffering.
The Rainbow Bridge
inspired by a Norse legend
By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill,

Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.

Where the friends of man and woman do run,

When their time on earth is over and done.

For here, between this world and the next,

Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.

On this golden land, they wait and they play,

Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.

No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,

For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.

Their limbs are restored, their health renewed,

Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.

They romp through the grass, without even a care,

Until one day they start, and sniff at the air.

All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back,

Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.

For just at that instant, their eyes have met;

Together again, both person and pet.

So they run to each other, these friends from long past,

The time of their parting is over at last.

The sadness they felt while they were apart,

Has turned into joy once more in each heart.

They embrace with a love that will last forever,

And then, side-by-side, they cross over… together.
