We are just about to sit down to a cream tea (shop bought scones - not the lovely looking home made ones of OP) so it will be a good opportunity to test out the relative merits of scone jam cream, versus scone cream jam.......,

Scone jam cream is easier to manage.

Yes. Cornwall and Devon are engaged in 'scone wars'.

It's an artificial construct because matter which order you put the jam and the cream the result is still pretty ordinary and is an expensive substitute for a jam butty.
