Barefoot on the beach

Was out with the family in Bridlington on Friday, lazing about on the beach and skimming stones. Beach is quite nice, sandy with a line of pebbles around the high water mark.

Thing is why do we all walk barefoot on the beach with all the ooh...aah...ow..ouch that goes with it when crossing the pebbly bit then as soon as we get off it onto nice smooth concrete/block paving put footwear back on? I didn't bother and walked about barefoot for a bit until we got to where the litter started appearing but it was obviously noted by a few people.
Just struck me as one of those things that that we all do without thinking about it or it making that much sense.

I do the same. Ill walk barefoot(as long as its warm enough) on the beach, over the pebbles and when i get off the beach.
Why not? It stops sand getting into your shoes.
