Part of me would like to see an update a one off of where they are now

The other half questions whether the modern script writers could do it justice

I like that show!

I've been enjoying the re-runs of the Likely Lads, having liked them first time round too. Last week, they had lunch in the pub, and for two pints, two sandwiches, a pie and a pasty, they paid the grand total of 82p! Mindboggling!

I remember catching the bus into town, buying 10 B&H, drinking about 8 or 9 pints, eating curry sauce and chips after the pub, catching the bus home, and still having change from £2. That would be around 1975.

To think that their really early shows were wiped by the BBC. I wonder if there are any scripts kicking around as they would be a brilliant read knowing how the characters developed.

James Bolam went on to have a good career in acting, but Rodney Bewes did not.

I remember reading a rather sad interview with Bewes a few years ago when he was living in what appeared to be a bedsit in Bournemouth.

He conceded he had no money, and could do with any royalties from The Likely Lads.

But due to contracts signed at the time the show was made, Bolam was able to block nearly all repeats.

Bewes said Bolam knew he could do with the money, but still wouldn't let the re-runs go ahead.

The suspicion was that by then Bolam saw himself as a proper actor, darling, and didn't want people reminded of his role as Terry Collier.
