BBC - Report on Pot Holes - Have you been affected?

Interesting. Last year's holes wrote off a rim and a tyre (two occasions).

Well - I fell foul of a pothole last December. Wrote off a wheel.

Ahem! It was in my car! Even motorists can suffer. Amazingly, the wheel was kaput but the (almost new) tyre was OK, according to the garage. But I needed the tracking re-adjusted.

I shouldn't be complacent. For the motorist a pothole is usually a nuisance, nothing more. For a cyclist it can be a killer. But having said that, I think, on two wheels I have more of a rapport with the road surface, I look out seriously for things like that, a sort of hair-trigger 'assume-the-worst' sort of nervousness. Probably the best way. And I don't cycle very fast, which makes it easier.
